The Power of a Mother’s Prayer

I first learned that God hears our prayers by watching my mom pray and seeing God answer. The power of a mother’s prayer is farer reaching than she’ll ever know.
The Poisonous Berries and a Mama’s Powerful Prayer
I grew up where gekkos and tarantulas played with us in the backyard. 110* didn’t really phase us. And a peach tree grew in the backyard. Mama made peach pie from those peaches, to go with the rock salt old fashioned homemade ice cream mom and dad would fix together. I passed by cacti on the walk to school, and they made sure to teach us about both wildflowers like Mexican Top Hats and Indian Paintbrushes and also how to identify the difference between poison oak, poison sumac, and something else that was poison. Oh. Poison ivy.
My mom was home with three small babies and two dogs. And the trees in the yard dropped a truckload of poisonous berries all over everywhere we played. We were still putting pretty much everything in our mouths, even though we were old enough to not do that. Poor mom. But she prayed to God, “Father, help me. There are poisonous berries everywhere!”
And then, I kid you not, a flock of birds swooped in from all over. And they ate up all the berries!
Ripple Effects of a Mother’s Prayers
I’ll tell you something. I might be missing some of the details as I retell a story I heard decades ago as a kid, but what matters most is that mama prayed for help to protect her babies and God sent birds to gobble them all up! That did something inside me. I grew up knowing God hears and answers our prayers. He just does. So not only did her prayers spare my life, they also taught me how to live my life. One of my favorite coffee mugs says this, “My secret is simple: I pray.” Happy sigh. I love it.
The Power of A Mother’s Prayer
I’ve heard so many stories about men and women who basically flew off their rocker, but their mama’s prayers saved both their physical life and their eternal one. To every mama who ever prayed for her babies, take heart. God hears your prayers. They’re more powerful than you know. And also, your kids are watching and learning from you, even if it doesn’t seem like it at the time.
p.s. I love you. Happy Mother’s Day, Mama!
Til next time… Toodle-loo, and Peace be with you.
