The Map and The Rain
We are learning that when God says go, it’s for our good.
On a recent epic road trip, we trusted God’s timing and left for Kansas. When we got there, we learned we just missed a massive hail storm that would have flattened our bikes and car topper.
Then I heard Holy Spirit nudging we need to go to Enid, Oklahoma next. This added hours to the trip but seeing old friends who knew and lived my husband was worth it. We learned going this route on these days helped us avoid a massive super cell storm cloud and hail. We stayed a couple days and recovered. Felt restful and safe.
Would have stayed longer, but I heard so clearly “You need to get to Little Rock by tomorrow.” So we loaded up and carried on to Arkansas. We got in late than I wanted and dog tired, but we made it! As we ate a late Chick-a-play meal in the hotel lobby, the weather news came on. Apparently we just missed massive flooding on the roads in Tulsa by a few hours!
If I could choose, I think I’d rather be behind a storm than in front of it. Like it’s chasing us out of dodge. But I have to say, I see how clearly the Father is guiding us.
From Little Rock, we had a massive fork in the road and three good options to get to our next leg of the journey. But I didn’t have any peace on the pit stops on either route of the quicker routes. The longer route that let us see family put us in constant heavy rainstorms the entire drive according to the weather man.
So I did something I never do and looked up crime reports in both cities. Turns out they are the worst in their perspective states and much higher than national averages. And as I prayed for wisdom, I heard that quiet comforting voice say go see your sister. So even though it added two more hours to the drive and meant we’d likely be driving all day in heavy rain on highways according to the forecast, we went where we were sent.
And guess what? The ONLY bit of rain we caught was about 75 seconds, right over the Welcome to Sweet Home Alabama sign. No other rain for the entire drive, and we made record time with only 40 minutes at pit stops for gas, restrooms, and lunch.
I felt the hand of God scooting us along and his blessing for this road ahead. And every where I drive, I see butterflies even on the highway.
Here’s to new beginnings and trusting God with the plan even when we don’t understand. Here’s to the God who orders our steps one day at a time. Here’s to not getting ahead of His road map for us. Here’s to the God Who makes a way, clears the weather, maps the drive, and sends us to loved ones on the way.
May you feel the smile of God on your path today, and may the road rise up to meet you.
Cheers.
Til next time, Toodle-loo and Peace be with you.
