The Creative Power Behind God’s Promises

We get used to people just saying things, and eventually we lose our understanding of just how powerful promises can be. If we’re given too many false promises, we can get to a point where we have disbelief and doubts and even suspicion when someone promises something. But when God gives a promise, it’s on a totally different level. God’s Words have creative power. He can speak into existence thing that do not exist. He created everything out of nothing… with His Words. Words have so much more power than we know and realize.
Every time I come to God’s Word lately, I hear Isaiah 55:11. Here it is in context:
“For as the rain and snow come down from heaven
And do not return there but water the earth,
Making it bring forth and sprout,
Giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth,
It will not return to me empty,
But it will accomplish that which I purpose,
And shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
Isaiah 55:10-11, ESV
God’s promises are not just niceties. And they certainly aren’t fluff. When God gives us a word, there’s a creative supernatural power behind it. And what He speaks happens. What He speaks becomes reality.
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, discerning of thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12, ESV
I had a dream once where I saw a Book opened up. It was alive. Each word in Hebrew was written in flickering flame, moving fire. There was so much more in the dream, but I want to share that image. How each word of God’s is like a fire, living, active, powerful, refining.
The translation I grew up learning says God’s word is “living and breathing.”
We need to think of God’s promises in the same way. God’s promises are words from His mouth with a supernatural, living, breathing, creative power in them. His promise makes something from nothing in the same way He created the heavens and the earth in the first place out of nothing. And when we feel like we got nothing, that’s exactly the material God uses to create good and beautiful things. He makes beauty out of ashes, so let’s give Him our ashes. He makes something out of nothing, so let’s give Him our nothing. He makes gladness out of mourning, so let’s give Him our sorrow. He makes. God makes peace where there’s despair, so let’s give Him our heartbreak.
So here’s a little tug on our hearts to remember. God’s Promises will come to pass and they will accomplish His purpose. They have power. No more doubting and begging for His promises to happen. If He said He’s going to do it, then switch to praising Him for it and thanking Him for it. Instead of begging for something He already said He’d do, change your prayers to asking Him what you need to do to partner with Him in that promise and to prepare for that promise.
Til next time… Toodle-loo, and Peace be with you.
