If God Said He’ll Do It, He’ll Do It

How do we carry a promise from God? When we are given a promise, we’re also given an opportunity to exercise our faith. How we respond to a promise might be more important than we know! If God said it, do we really believe He’ll do it?
Let’s rewind a bit here… If you don’t have a promise from God that you’re holding on to right now, it’s time to get one. [Read here for more on getting yourself a promise!] Promises and hope go hand in hand, and we all need hope these days.
So when we are given a promise from the Lord, what do we do with it?
If we’re honest with ourselves, do we hold the promise loosely so we’re not disappointed if it doesn’t come to pass? Kind of scooting the promise to the side. Or do we hold on to that promise with dear life, expecting and even planning for it to come to pass? Other times, I notice, that even though it’s been promised, we continue begging for it in prayer, not fully believing the promise has been given to us. But if God said He will do it, He will do it.
So what do we do with a promise from God?
- Thank God for it!
- Pray it through to completion.
- Seek the Lord in how to prepare accordingly.
- Trust Him and His timing.
Instead of feeling anxious about the promise still en route, rest in the fact that if God said He’ll do it, He will do it. Trust His timing patiently. His plans are always worth the wait. Thank Him for promise and thank Him that He is trustworthy to keep His word.
One scripture the Lord brings me back to when I’m waiting on a promise is in Isaiah 55.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
Isaiah 55:8-11
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
His Word will accomplish His plans. His promises will come to pass.
It’s hard to wait on these promises. But if we don’t just passively sit and wait, if we pray them through, thank God for them in faith, and prepare for them, then we use the waiting wisely.
Thankfully, we are not alone in waiting on the promises. David, Moses, Abraham… they all waited YEARS and YEARS for God’s promises. So take heart. Learn from their examples of how they waited well (and how their impatience caused bigger problems.) And know that you’re in good company. Waiting on God’s promises and believing He’s good for His Word is key in this faith-walk with God. So get your hopes up high and keep trusting!
What promise from God are you holding on to today? And how are you going to steward that promise differently now?
Til next time… Toodle-loo, and Peace be with you.
