Faith that God Can Fix Anything

I have the best parents. My mom taught me a lot about prayer and hearing God’s voice just by her example in her conversations with God. I wrote about my favorite story on the power of a mother’s prayer [here.] And my dad’s example gave me a lot of faith in God’s ability to fix anything broken.
My dad is a renaissance kind of guy. He makes homemade chicken tikka masala in the pizza oven, ties his own fly-fishing flies to float down the rivers of Colorado, flies his own plane, builds his own computers, welds his own tables, builds his own toothbrush holders, toys, and houses from his woodshop… Pretty much if anything needs created, he’s on it. My folks gave me a whimsical childhood in that way.
One of my favorite memories of my dad is from when I was in high school. By this point, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that my dad could create anything. I had been dreaming of a way to store my jewelry and designed a cute miniature armoire of sorts. I sketched out a rough idea of what I wanted it to look like and asked dad if he could build it for me. I knew the answer was yes. And without even thinking about the details, I knew he could figure all that out too.
I had full confidence that dad could not only bring my dream to pass, but he could also figure out all the proper dimensions and mechanisms and how to make the drawer pull out just right. Beyond my imagination, he also made a way for the door to close with a hidden magnet. He figured out where and how to dove tail and miter and bevel the edges just right. He chose the very best wood for the job too. And all I did was dream it up and planned to paint it when he was done. I never did paint it. I loved the raw wood as it was and it hasn’t changed in decades.
All this taught me so much about our Father in heaven. He also delights to build our rough ideas and dreams into reality. And we can surrender and hand over our vision and trust God to create something even better than we imagined.
Having a dad who can build and fix anything was an incredible faith-builder that my Father in Heaven likewise can build and fix anything. God delights when we entrust our dreams to Him. God receives our dreams carefully and molds them. He returns something beautiful back to us when we only had a vague sketch of a good idea. He gives us good plans when we just had an inkling. And He gives us vision where we had none.
Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see. It was their faith that made our ancestors pleasing to God.
Because of our faith, we know that the world was made at God’s command. We also know that what can be seen was made out of what cannot be seen.
So today, whether you had a dad like that growing up or not, you do have a Father in heaven like that. May you be encouraged that God can fix anything broken, including your heart. He can redeem anything destroyed, including your future. And He can speak into existence things that didn’t exist. All because the heart of Father God is for you. May you gain confidence to approach Him today with your prayers and requests and know His answer is yes.
p.s. I love you dad!! And I thank God you are mine! Happy Father’s Day!!
Til next time… Toodle-loo, and Peace be with you.
