A Prayer for the Start of the School Year

As the start of the school year approaches, let’s cover the children’s school year in prayer.

A Prayer for School Year:

Father in Heaven,

Thank you for these children and all the wonder they’ve seen this summer. As the school year starts, I lift them up to you and ask that you go before them. Go before them into their classrooms and hallways and cafeteria rooms. Fill those spaces with your Holy Spirit. Surround these kids’ locker/cubby space with your presence.

Education

Father, you promise that great will be the peace of our children and that you yourself with be their Teacher (Isaiah 54:13). So I trust you and thank you that you are preparing the lesson plans for our kids this year. You know what they need to learn most about how to love and live a godly life. Please teach them your ways and teach them about this world.

Teachers

Lead and guide the teachers as they prepare for the school to start. Give them wisdom and discernment and divine strategies in how to manage the classroom. Strengthen the teachers to prepare well. Father, please assign the right teachers for these kids. Give our kids favor in their sight, that they would grow in stature and wisdom and walk in your ways (1 Samuel 2:26).

Friends

Find godly friends for these kids who will be like iron sharpening iron. I pray for divine connections. Give these kids eyes to see and courage to pursue other kids that feel on the fringes. Don’t let isolation or loneliness enter these classrooms. May there be a spirit of harmony, unity, belonging, and peace. Fill this school with joy and laughter!

Building and Grounds

Surround this school with angels to walk the hallways and grounds. Anoint this building with the oil of Holy Spirit and cover this place in the blood of Jesus, every window and every door. Protect these buildings and all who walk inside them.

Leadership

Thank you Father for all the leadership, teachers, administrators. Please give them strength, peace, and joy in their work. Please provide for their families and protect their marriages and children. Take good care of all those involved in teaching our children. And give them courage to stand up for what is good and true and right in our schools.

Protection

We commit every part of this year to you, Lord. Please mold our kids and their hearts and minds to be more like you. And give them courage to bring heaven to earth wherever they go. Go before them and behind them and surround them with your presence and protection and loving kindness. We commit them to your hands.
