When Holy Spirit Sings Over Us

It’s 105 degrees. I’m driving my kids across many state lines and we have a topper on the roof rack my dad custom built with 2x4s to secure it. We’ve got 3 cruiser bikes bobbling in the rear. In the cabin, we’ve got 2 kids, a bunny and a hamster. My body started being in pain the first 5 minutes of the drive… just discomfort everywhere. But we carry on. I only make it about 4 GPS hours until I’m cooked for the day with my driving limit. And that’s ok.
We’ve seen dust devils dissipate as we said the name of Jesus. We’ve seen the car stay cool after sitting in noonday sun in 105 degrees outside. It felt about 20 degrees COOLER inside the car after that hour. And if you’ve ever lived in the south, you know that’s a wonder. We’ve seen God encourage us everytime we get tired.
The last conversation we had before leaving Colorado was a story from a girl who said she drove across the country by herself, 24 hours of drive time. And every time she got too weary to carry on, she saw Jesus. Jesus everywhere. She saw Jesus on billboards and crosses on the highway and trucks. I’m so grateful she said that because it gave me eyes to see Jesus on the roadside too. Every time I thought I can’t go another mile, there was Jesus.
The thing we noticed was that our Jesus signs always had to do with trust. “In God we trust” on a silo in Kansas. “Trust in Jesus” on farmer’s roadside plywood signs. And then, “Jesus, I trust in you.” And yes we do! This whole drive is a journey of trust. We trust you.
The God of all hope fills those who trust Him with ALL joy and peace, overflowing with hope by the power of Holy Spirt. Romans 15:13
Yes, He does. He gives us hope, peace, and joy when we trust Him and follow Him.
And you know what else? He sings over us.
I laid in bed aching after driving days. My heart got quiet and I heard a song I never think of. “Weary traveler, carry on… Weary traveler, you won’t be weary long.” This was Holy Spirit ever so kindly and gently saying, “You can do it! You’re going to make it! And I’m right here with you!” It was the softest cheer that I needed.
I can’t count how many times the Lord will sing us just the right lyrics at just the right time. It reminds me of my mom and my mom friends who just sing little diddies to their kids throughout the day. He’s good and lovely.
Next time you hear the perfect encouraging or uplifting song in your head, don’t just brush it off. It’s often the Lord bringing you encouragement through His still soft voice.
Lord, give us ears to hear your voice. Wake us morning by morning with ears to hear like one being taught. Isaiah 54. In Jesus’ name, amen
Til next time… Toodle-loo, and Peace be with you.
