Your Dirt Does Not Disqualify You

We walked through a parking lot yesterday, full of fairly clean vehicles. But one stood out the most. This car had clearly traveled down some hard roads and off the beaten path. But on the side of the vehicle was a shakily written message, “Jesus loves you.” It’s funny. I have not stopped thinking of that car! Because it’s a visual reminder that our dirt does not disqualify us.
When the enemy whispers that your sin or disobedience or generational iniquities disqualify you from living rightly before God… Nothing could be farther from the truth. Because we’ve all sinned. We’ve all turned left when God steered us right. And we’ve all taken a turn at ignoring the nudges of Holy Spirit to share the Good News. We’re all our own brand of mess. And that’s the Good News! That Jesus came to become the curse for us so that we could take on His righteousness! The Good News for those of us with messy pasts and those of us who make messy choices is that Jesus blood washes away all our mess!
Even though we know better in our heads, we can quickly believe the lies of the enemy that our mess disqualifies us from sharing the Good News of Jesus. And yet, the only car in the parking lot with some dirt on it was the only one bringing the message of hope to me that day!
Makes me think of the woman at Jesus’ feet. “She loves much because she’s been forgiven much.” I don’t think that means the more we have sinned, the more we love. Nope. I think that means the more we understand the glory of Jesus forgiveness and just how much we need Jesus’ forgiveness, the more love overflows out of us!
That messy car in the lot reminds me of the good and true basics…
God can redeem anything!
The dirt of our past can become our platform for sharing God’s love.
The dust of our valleys of death can become the parchment for our testimony.
By faith, it’s Christ’s holiness that makes us holy and Christ’s blood that makes us clean. Not our ability to scrub or bleach or blot out our past or transgressions. And that is the core of our message of hope…
Jesus loves you!
He took your place on the cross.
And His blood washes us white as snow.
So let’s remember that basic truth next time you get a little mud on your tires or dust on your truck.
Til next time… Toodle-loo, and Peace be with you.

If you want to walk in full forgiveness and the full power of the Holy Spirit, here’s a prayer to ask Jesus to wash you clean and lead you in a new life.
