A Prayer for the Fear of the Lord

Praying the Scriptures is one of the most powerful ways to pray in our authority in Christ. We can stand confident in God’s “yes” to prayers that reflect His heart back to Him. So let’s start at square one with friendship with God and with wisdom… A prayer for the fear of the Lord.

A Prayer for the Fear of the Lord

Father in Heaven,

I praise your for your love and protection. Thank you for showing us grace and favor! Thank you for the finished work of the cross of Christ and for the suffering you endured to set us free.

Lord, I want to grow in the fear of the Lord. I want to live my life walking in deep reverence for you, worshipping you, obeying you, serving, trusting, and full of awe and respect for you (Psalm 128:1). I want to walk in your sweet, satisfying companionship and your friendship, which you reserve for those who fear you (Psalm 25:14). And I want to walk in all the blessings and benefits that you give to those who fear you.

So please show me the way. Please help me walk in the fear of you Lord so I will gain wisdom and understanding. Help me walk in the humility of a teachable heart and the courage to do your will (Psalm 111:10, AMP). Show me where I have been despising wisdom and instruction like the foolish. Instead, give me the grace to have a teachable heart (Proverbs 1:7, ESV). Put your praises on my lips all the days of my life.

Stir my heart to treasure wisdom’s gentleness and search for it diligently (Proverbs 2:4-6). Teach me to hate what is evil and love what is good.

I surrender my life to you, Father. I give you the desires of my heart, the work of my hands, the leading of my will. Give me wisdom. And help me walk in your ways: revering, worshiping and obeying you alone. Help me walk in step with you, hearing your voice and guided by your truth.

I love you, Lord. I give you my all.
