A Prayer for Sabbath Rest
Father in Heaven, I come to you today with a prayer for a much needed Sabbath rest.
Thank you for setting a day aside for us to rest! We delight in your Sabbath rest. We delight to be with you and rest in your presence.
After another massive week, I close my eyes. I curl up in a ball and sense your arm wrapped around me. I love it here with you.
As Sabbath draws near, help me resist temptation to get a crack on. Help me remember that you are God and I am most certainly not. And if you rested after 6 days, I not only can but need to as well.
I surrender all of my to-do lists to you. I surrender all my plans and projects to you. I entrust them to you for safe-keeping.
That’s one thing I love about Sabbath rest. It humbles me and reminds me that the world will go on just fine without me. And it also revives, restores, and strengthens me to go on in the world with a clear mind and rested spirit, ready to fulfill the call you have on my life.
Give me ears to hear, eyes to see, and a body willing to stop the pace I’ve been keeping all week long. Fill me with your Spirit and strength so I can work from this place of rest next week.
Oh I love Sabbath rest! And I look forward to spending the day with you, enjoying your company, listening for your voice, and enjoying the presence of those I love too.
In Jesus’ Mighty name, I pray for this much needed and longed for Sabbath rest.
