The Sleep or No Sleep Prayer

This prayer is for when you wake up in the morning, but you’re not really waking up, you’re just finally deciding to get up. It’s for when your body aches from lack of restoration that sleep brings. It’s for when you feel crazy in your emotions because emotion stability is so much harder on no sleep than when you are rested.

The Sleep or No Sleep Prayer is one I crafted and wrote on a little index card and taped to the other side of my glass shower door. I’ve brought this prayer with me, to many different houses, and I’ve prayed it on many rough nights.

But the thing that helps me is trusting that God’s promises are true. And He can help me in any situation. So the next time you find yourself dogtired and weary to the bone, may this prayer strengthen and empower you.

The Sleep or No Sleep Prayer

Father God,

I am totally dependent on Your strength to get me through this day.

Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit.

And give me all the strength, energy, wisdom, and self-control I need for the day.

Help me work efficiently and love wholeheartedly.

Mining For Gold and Silver Linings

The Sleep or No Sleep Prayer is a tiny but powerful, desperate prayer has held me through severe sleep deprivation for way too many years. One good thing that came out of those torturous decades was an ironclad ability to lean on the Lord to be my strength because I had none of my own. This tethered me to Him in ways I’m not sure anything else could. So there’s a silver lining in everything. He can redeem anything.

My hope and prayer is that you find victory from your sleeplessness, but until then, don’t miss out on the gold you can mine in the Spirit. Learn to depend on the Lord for your literal everything. It’s worth it.
