Power in the Name of Jesus

Sometimes, the only prayer you can pray is just the name of Jesus. When you have no words. When you feel sucker-punched or blind-sided. Oh, or when you are full of such sorrow and despair it hurts to exist. Just “Jesus.” But there is so much power in Jesus’ name.
It makes me think of that old song from the 70’s, “Just call out my name, and you know that wherever I am, I’ll come running to see you again.” That’s the heart of Jesus. Just call on His name and He’ll be right there.
Jesus’ name protects us.
I’ve heard stories of children who were abducted and all they did was sing a song to Jesus and their kidnappers freaked and set them free. I heard a story of a girl who was captured. Her grandmother instructed her to always say the name of Jesus if she ever felt afraid. As the man started to prepare to harm her, she felt afraid so the little girl listened to her grandma and just said Jesus name over and over. The man got so uncomfortable hearing Jesus name, he set her free. So much power in the name of Jesus.
These stories always make me cry. I hate that these children were ever in these situations. I also cry because the mercy and power of Jesus’s name to set them free. Sometimes, all I can do is pray His name on repeat. The stories of these brave and trusting children reminds me of the power of His name.
Calling on Jesus’ name saves us.
“All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved,” (Romans 10:13).
Jesus’ name can heal the sick, cast out demons, give you a new language, and protect you.
“Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well,” (Mark 16:16-18).
God answers our prayers and Jesus presence draws near when we call on His name.
“Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them,” (Matthew 18:18-20).
His powerful name brings order and beauty.
They’ve done all kinds of studies of music frequency and the minute a song speaks the powerful name of Jesus, the frequencies become order and beauty and chaos is stopped. And that’s true in our lives too.
The name of Jesus quiets the storm and brings order from chaos and beauty from ashes. That’s why I keep praise music and scripture lullabies in my home pretty much 24/7 or at least quietly through every night. That’s why when I have nothing left in me and no words left to pray, I just call out Jesus’ name and I know that wherever I am, He’ll come running. He’s my Ever-Present Help in Time of Need.
Truly, there is wonder-working power in the name of Jesus.
So just call out His name, and know that He will come running to your aide. He is Hosanna, God Save Us. Jesus is Emmanuel, God with Us. He is the Mighty One Who Will Save.
Til next time… Toodle-loo, and Peace be with you.
